I’ve been distracted by non-car things recently so I hadn’t paid much attention to the new Octavia, but I just noticed its somewhat unusual (for a Skoda) interior. Cloth dashboard? Two-spoke steering wheel? Neat. I’ll take a vRS wagon please.

I think they should bring SEAT over as a car sharing model and make their tagline “Take a SEAT”

No one on the entire continent would pronounce it right, and I don’t know if they could stand it.

Because our market is perverse, it wouldn’t sell.

They’d have to have an introductory commercial to familiarize people.
“ Say what? SEAT.”

Perfect, let’s take out a Super Bowl 30 sec. add so we can get all of America to go around saying our new slogan, “Take a SEAT” as “take a SAY-AT”.
What could possibly go wrong?

Sounds expensive. Maybe just dump some SEAT rebadged e-scooters into the cities , without any seats at all, and just let it happen organically. It’ll take a while to get the cars through customs anyway.

I always wanted this angle, same idea:
“I see you have a bag with a VAG-Com cable, a laptop, and a bottle of carnauba wax. What exactly were you planning?”

In theory, we can buy this in Mexico but not here. Because reasons.

The OG Chevy Cruze had cloth dash trim. I sat in someone’s rental Cruze once and when it’s plain black cloth matching with the rest of the plain black interior, the cloth seems stupid as hell. But with a contrasting color...

Genius! You’re hired. Get on it.

That looks very much like a VW.

But slightly different!!!

The new one has a cloth dash too as I recall, at least in lower trims .
I’m all for interesting interior trim options. Even if it’s black, I find it more interesting than just more plastic. But color is better

I’ve been sitting in a bunch of SEAT’s and Skoda’s (car shopping) the past couple of months and I must say, I’ve been disappointed in the interiors of Skoda’s, compared to SEATs that is. From looking at pictures, I always expected to feel more at home in a Skoda, it just looks much more qualitative compared to the bland, cheap looking SEAT interiors, but weirdly, the interiors in SEATs feel much more robust and overall have a better feel.

We do get Skodas in North America... they’re just advertised under the VW brand name.
You want to get the general idea of what it’s like to drive/own a Skoda Octavia?
Just buy a VW Golf or Jetta with the base engine
and you’ll have at least 80-90% of the experience.

Oh noes! You are shopping around for a sensible daily driver?

The Integra's being put back together for sale, I am indeed shopping, but I'm trying to keep it....less sensible, lol, which is why the SEATs and Skoda's both didn't work out. They were too......sensible (read: not enough rattly bits moving around in the cabin )

The new Octavia looks very much like a slightly reduced Superb. Which to me isn’t a bad thing.
Good choice of engines.
I think they said they are releasing it as a liftback first.
Then the estate later,
Followed by vRS versions later.
